Summer in October

Today we spent the whole day at the beach. We took turns sun bathing, swimming, napping and maintaining the fort Lucas and the girls built in the sand. We ran out of sunscreen and the day got chilly around three. We watched the clouds roll in, wrapped ourselves in beach towels, and said goodbye to last of summer in October.

We headed into town for dinner outdoors, messy and delicious. Iced tea, fresh salads, warm pasta.

When we left Malibu to go home, Lucas carried Norah. I carried Avery. My sweet California girls: sandy little feet and wind blown hair bobbed with every step.

I said to Avery, "what a wonderful day. Did you have fun?" And Avery replied, "maybe." Then she snuggled up and placed her head on my shoulder with a dreamy, sleepy smile.
