A Perfectly Unplanned Day

Avery and I are both the type who like to get out of the house.   I often feel a little panicked when I don’t have something planned for us to do on a Thursday morning.  I know we both do better with some kind of fun on the agenda.   In fact, Thursday mornings are the only morning we don’t have a pre-planned activity outside of the house.  We don’t like to be stuck indoors staring at each other.  It’s not good for either one of us.

So, this morning, when things looked gray and gloomy outside (but not rainy)- I decided we’d hit the park anyway.  I asked my neighbor, Rachel, if she and her sons wanted to join us, and before we could even finalize our plans it began to pour outside.

I was more than a little disappointed.  But Rachel insisted we brave the weather to at least get out for a little fresh air.  So, we did.  And by the time we had gotten all the kids bundled up to head outdoors, the rain had cleared.  We decided to head for the park.  And by the time we got to the park, the sun even came out for a little bit.

We stayed for over an hour.

On the walk home, the high school marching band was marching through our neighborhood.  The kids all chased after them dancing to the pounding of the drums, holding hands, and jumping up and down with excitement.  There was nothing to get back to, nothing on the schedule that we had to make it home for.   So we followed the band for as long as we could, smiling and laughing the whole way.

It was a perfect morning.  We couldn’t have had more fun if we’d planned it.
